Terry is 50 years old and was born and raised in east London. On leaving school he worked for the Metropolitan Police Civil Staff for nine years before he finally felt that the “itch” to become self employed finally had to be scratched. Having no business background he decided that a franchise was the best route to achieving his aim and so bought into Snap-On Tools. During the three years he worked the Snap-On dealership he met his now wife and not only fell for her but also her country, Ireland.

In 1991 and in the depth of the last housing crisis, Terry moved to Ireland and having no experience in doing business in Ireland decided once again to invest in a franchise, this time Chem-Dry carpet cleaning. Working this business for five years he finally decided that for contractual reasons he had to leave this business and having seen the rapid increase in timber flooring sales decided that this was the market to invest in.

After training Terry set up his own wood flooring sales and installation company Airc (pronounced arc) Flooring. At that time there was no pre-finished flooring so all floors were in their “raw” state and had to be site finished. Initially floor sanding equipment was hired but this was expensive and of course very dusty. At this time dust free sanding equipment became available and so he invested in this and promoted in his area. The demand for a dust free floor sanding service was so great that it was soon decided to drop the floor sales and installation and concentrate on the floor sanding business. In 2006 Terry was approached by a large franchising company
and was asked to franchise out his business. In 2007 after intense research, development and re-branding The Ultimate Floor Sanding Company was launched and became the fastest growing franchise in the Uk and Ireland for the next eighteen months.

The Ultimate Floor Sanding Company is now Ireland’s largest floor sanding company and despite the well documented problems in the Irish economy, it continues to grow and be more successful.

Terry is married with two children and lives in County Galway. He now has a business partner, Paul spiller, who handles the franchise and marketing side of the business (Paul is the original consultant who set up the franchise business) while Terry himself is the technical director.
